Last year (2017) I was lucky enough to draw for my Elk hunt. Unfortunately, I did not bring home any meat. I had a Mature Bull tag only and in NM GMU 50, the bulls were scarce. On day one we climbed about 2000 feet of elevation to get to the top of Pot Mountain, the top is about 9500 feet and the base sits about 7500 feet. In my group we had 7 people. My Son and I went to the south slopes, the others also spread out along the other sides of the mountain. My Son and I worked the south slope till we got to a nice over watch portion of a large open draw leading from a water hole on top. With in 15 minutes we spotted a spike and 3 large cows. But no bull. The next several days we spent scouting other areas and over watching a nice watering hole on day. We saw several cows, but only one of us saw a bull on day three. The weather was pretty much decent, cold in the mornings, but warmed up a good deal in the afternoon, so they bedded quickly in the morning. This year (2018) we did not draw. I have attached some pics of our Scouting trip. "Adaptive Strategies for an Uncertain Future” Cibolo Creek Tactical "Who will Teach the Wisdom.” Timothy G. Bax (Selous Scouts)
